Our Veterinarians

Dr Dan Matthiesen
Dr. Dan Matthiesen

A Newberg native, Dr. Dan graduated from Oregon State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Shortly after graduation, he married Dr. Jen and together, they have twin girls, a boy, and a small farm. Dr. Dan started Family Pet Clinic with his dad, Dr. Randy Matthiesen (now retired) in 2002 and is truly the heart of our clinic. He loves challenging medical and surgical cases and values the relationships he has built with our long-time clients.

In addition to the two-legged family members, Dr. Dan claims Bandit the Australian Shepherd and Lukie the Labrador and also has a herd of goats that he and one of the girls raise for 4-H kids. In his free time, Dr. Dan enjoys fishing, hiking, and snowboarding with his family.

She is particularly interested in ophthalmology and dermatology cases but also has a passion for our geriatric patients. In her spare time, Dr. Jen enjoys spending time with her family, taking care of her flower garden and riding her American Quarter Horse, Cruz.

Her menagerie includes Rilla the kitty, Bandit the Australian Shepherd, Lukie the Labrador, and Cruz. Fun fact about Dr. Jen—she and Dr. Dan married a month after graduating from veterinary school together and feel so blessed by the amazing clients and team that they get to work with.

Dr Jennifer Greaves
Dr. Jennifer Greaves

Dr. Jennifer (or Dr. J as she’s affectionately known by most of our clients) knew as a young girl that she wanted to be a veterinarian. At 13 years old, she was already job shadowing at a local veterinary clinic. Later, she became a kennel assistant and then a veterinary assistant at the same clinic. It was then that she met Dr. Randy Matthiesen, who was instrumental in helping her obtain her veterinary degree.

Upon graduating from Oregon State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006, Dr. J worked for a variety of veterinary practices before settling here at Family Pet Clinic in 2012. Her addition to our team was seamless—she fit right in with our close-knit, family-oriented practice.

Dr. J enjoys the rural lifestyle of Yamhill County where she gardens, cooks, rides horses, and loves spending time with her husband and daughters.

Dr Katie Ellis
Dr. Katie Ellis

Dr. Katie Ellis is a Florida native who received both her Bachelor of Science in 2001 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2007 from the University of Florida. Dr. Katie has a passion for travel and after visiting Mt. Hood for a winter in college, knew that she wanted to make Oregon her home. She completed an equine surgical internship in Ocala, Florida before making her way to Newberg in 2008. Since then, she has worked predominantly with dogs and cats and has been an integral part of the team since 2016.

She brings to the practice extensive knowledge and experience in medicine, surgery, dermatology, and dentistry. Over her years in practice, she has honed advanced skills in diagnostic ultrasound of both the abdomen and the heart and has become certified in veterinary acupuncture. When she is not working, she enjoys time at the coast or snowboarding with her husband and children. She can also be found visiting her favorite local wineries and enjoying walks with her dog, Lacey, and cuddles with her cat, Flash.

When not at work, Dr. Douglas enjoys traveling the world, wine tasting, and crocheting. Her current zoo at home includes three different types of geckos, two snakes, three cats, and one dog. Our Leadership

Jen Marcinuik
Office Manager Jennifer M.

Jennifer joined our team in 2006 after many years in the veterinary field (she is now in her 30th year!). She started out as a kennel assistant and worked her way up from there—which means that she knows every aspect of a veterinary clinic. Jennifer has lived in Newberg for 20 years and shares her home with her husband and son and a herd of animals, which includes two cats and the clown of the household—Duke, a Border Collie mix. She also loves to add litters of orphaned bottle kittens to the menagerie. Jennifer’s family life and animals keep her very busy, as do her various duties at the clinic. We could not function without Office Manager Jen!

Dr. Douglas also has a strong passion for surgery, working with both our companion dogs and cats as well as exotic mammals and reptiles. When not at work, Dr. Douglas enjoys traveling the world, wine tasting, and crocheting. Her current zoo at home includes three different types of geckos, two snakes, three cats, and one dog.
